How to crack open a graded PSA case

Can anyone tell me how hard it would be to open a few PSA cases. I have four cards that I would like to send in to Beckett for grading and it seems to me that it might cost less if I remove them from the PSA cases.

For PSA, I can't say. I've broken SGC and BGS cases a bunch of times with no issues, though.

If you do a search on youtube it will show you a couple of different ways to do it. I have done it before following one of the videos online and you basically use a pair of pliers to snap off at the corner and then work a flathead screwdriver into the case and lift up to separate the case from the card

Personally I would never do this, unless you are positive it would get a higher grade.

Even then, I wouldn't risk shanking the card with a runaway screwdriver.

I'm probably going to send them in to Beckett in their PSA cases. I have four cards but will probably only send in two of them

Will they crack them out? I've never heard of them doing that, I assume they wouldn't want the liability for damage disputes.

If I recall correctly, it's a $3 cracking fee.

That's crazy!!! It's been a few years since I sent anything in to BGS, but I specifically remember a bunch of language about sending the cards in Card Savers, how they weren't responsible for any smudges, dust, etc.

I am actually astonished they would do this.

But hey, since they do ... go for it!

Cracking a PSA case is the easiest of the graded cases. Use a needlenose plyers and clip the top right corner. To clip it, grab the corner with the plyers and twist your wrist. The corner will break away. Slide in a flat head screwdriver along the flip and twist and the case will bust open.

I suggest cracking cards you don't care about to get the feel. I've broken open about 10-12 PSA cases only damaging one card (the second case I tried). There are a bunch of videos on YouTube that can help.

I focus my PC on Ken Griffey Jr but I also collect Jay Buhner , Steve Largent and Ryan Bader . Secondary collection: Seattle teams & Univ. of Arizona

They do. They charge a $3.00 fee for cracking them out. I guess since I really only want to send in two, six bucks isn't too bad
